Steam Legends
16 in x 20 in, Acrylic on canvas, 2022
This painting of Union Pacific Big Boy 4014 and Union Pacific Living Legend 844 during the inaugural run of the Big Boy for the 2019 excursion to Ogden, Utah commemorating the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad’s completion. I chose to go with the Union Pacific Railroad’s two steam locomotives that are a part of their heritage fleet and one steam locomotive that I actually have seen in person. My intention with this piece was to do an acrylic painting based on an actual railway event, in this case, a steam excursion. I used a photo of the two steam locomotives for referencing while sketching it out before and after I started painting. For the most part, I painted it on my own without any help.
