Coming Around The Mountain

16 in x  20 in, Acrylic on Canvas, 2022

This painting of the Great Northern Empire Builder passenger train was a personal piece. I chose to do this train because the Great Northern Railroad’s short-lived Big Sky Blue paint scheme introduced in 1967 is one of my favorite paint schemes. My intention of this piece was to include artwork of my other favorite railroads other than the Southern Pacific or Santa Fe. I also wanted to do another passenger train acrylic painting set during the 1960s similar to my final project for my fundamentals of color class during the Fall 2021 semester I did of the Southern Pacific’s San Joaquin Daylight in Tehachapi. For referencing, I used a publicity photo from the Great Northern Railroad featuring the Empire Builder which was the railroad’s original flagship passenger train.
